Glasgow Hawks 35 Heriot's 10
Glasgow Hawks produced a display of clinical finishing at Old Anniesland to sweep aside the challenge of Heriot's and clinch a place in the BT Cellnet Cup Final against Hawick on April 20 at Murrayfield.

Heriot's had raced off to the ideal start, bagging the first try of the contest with a piece of brilliant handling by Spaniard Jose Serrano.

The initial damage was done by Alex Aarvold, Stuart Lang and John Taylor, who pinned back the Hawks with telling surges.

Then following a quickfire recycle, number eight Craig Harrison cruised over after latching onto Serrano's clever tip-on.

Hawks, cup winners in 1998, replied in positive fashion to break their duck with a long-range penalty from stand-off Craig Hodgkinson.

double setback

He fluffed an easier attempt shortly afterwards - but bounced back to convert a slick touchdown from wing James Adams.

Veteran full-back Cammy Little was the chief architect, releasing flanker Neil McKenzie down the narrow side. McKenzie's short pass was perfectly delivered for Adams to trot round behind the posts.

The Edinburgh team were rocked by a double setback after the restart.

First Anders Monro was wide with a penalty bid - then Hodgkinson picked up another three points for Hawks with his third successful kick.

Worse was to come for Heriot's as lock Ian Smith ploughed over for Hawks' second try in the wake of a sustained spell of heavy pressure.

Hodgkinson's conversion struck a post and came down on the wrong side.

solo touchdown

Hawks ended the match as a contest with a spectacular touchdown.

Little mopped up 10 metres inside his own half after a spill by Marc Teague and found Kenny Sinclair, who embarked on a mazy 60-metre run.

He linked with Adams before Rory McKay strolled over under the crossbar to give Hodgkinson a simple kick.

Hodgkinson added another penalty, only to see Aarvold claw back a try for Heriot's - but it was too late for a fightback.

Centre Iain Leighton rounded off the rout with a solo touchdown for Hawks, goaled by Hodgkinson.
