Glasgow Warriors got their pre-season campaign off to a winning start in France today with a four tries to three victory over Castres in the XV Challenge Vaquerin tournament.

Despite Castres crossing the line first, Edinburgh Accies' Scotland 7s international, Chris Kinloch, replied to level the score. Colin Gregor converted.

Castres then edged in front before Daryl Gibson touched down. The former All Black and future Crusaders assistant coach received the scoring pass from youngster Greg Francis. Gregor converted.

Castres once again took the lead but Hefin OHare clawed the Warriors back, however, Gregor couldnt add the extra points to level the score. 21-19.

Glasgow sealed the victory from a late score by debutant Mark McMillan. Gregor found the target to make it three out of four conversions on the night.

After the game, Warriors assistant coach Shade Munro said: "It was a very positive exercise from an experimental point of view. Around 25 players played and they all got a decent amount of game time. They all played an equal part in the win.

It was also a good opportunity to try out some of the new ELVs (Experimental Law Variations), an opportunity we wouldnt otherwise have had, had we not been here. Ultimately, it was a satisfying victory which we achieved without some of our international players like Dan Parks, Kelly Brown, Dougie Hall and John Barclay."

Glasgow Warriors: Colin Shaw; Lome Faatau, Hefin OHare, Daryl Gibson, Chris Kinloch (Edinburgh Accies); Colin Gregor, Sam Pinder; Justin Vaa, Eric Milligan, Ed Kalman, Al Kellock CAPTAIN, Opeta Palepoi, Dan Turner, Calum Forrester, Richie Vernon
Substitutes used: Kevin Tkachuk, Pat McArthur (Ayr), Jon Welsh, Greg Francis (Glasgow Hawks), Johnnie Beattie, Mark McMillan, Ruaridh Jackson, Andrew Henderson, Max Evans, David Whiteford (Melrose)
